Lies We Tell Ourselves

I came across this amazing blog today and had to share. It is written by a graphic designer who hand letters (beautifully!) these hilarious drawings that each show a little lie that we tell ourselves throughout the day, and she calls it Daily Dishonesty. Genius.

And she even sells prints in her shop!

Mood Board

Here's a little mood board I made for the new house. Dreamy and green and soft and cozy, where the mountains meet the sea.
All of the photos are sourced from my pinterest boards, so feel free to browse there for more. Happy Tuesday!

Little House Living

So now that we know we really get to live in the Little House we can finally indulge ourselves by dreaming up decorating ideas and mentally arranging and re-arranging furniture that we don't even have yet! It was so so so hard not to do this before we knew we could live there, but we tried not to because we didn't want to get our hopes up too soon. Our budget is even littler than the Little House, so we are sticking to garage sales, thrift stores, 'free' signs in people's driveways, etc to find all the things we still want. But in my opinion that's the most exciting way to decorate so even if we had a bunch of money I  would probably still scour craigslist like a maniac searching for the perfect chaise.
Here's our current shopping list, designed by yours truly. Can you tell I'm excited?!

Big News, Little House

It's happening! After weeks of dreaming and quietly hoping... we are moving out!! Joey and I will officially be roommates in an adorable little house with a garden and trees and a porch and we can't wait. The house is tucked behind the house of one of our friend's parents and Joey has actually lived in it once before by himself a few years ago. He made breakfast for me there before I left for Spain and ever since then this little house has been imprinted on my mind in a very special way.

Big things going on around here! Between job changes and house changes, 2013 isn't looking a whole lot like 2012. All my pinterest pins and blog posts about tiny cabins and funky houses have come into being, and I am beyond excited. Get ready for lots of updates on our little house life!

Little Houses I Love

I've mentioned before how much I love little houses... and today I am feeling some major little house love! Remember the magical site called Cabin Porn? If ever you feel the need to dream of some dreamy little houses, Cabin Porn will not disappoint. For proof, see the beautiful, cozy, tough little houses below:

Cold Winter Weather

I know that generally Californians don't get much sympathy when it comes to weather complaints but I am freezing right now! The sun is out but the air is a brisk 54 degrees and it has been dropping into the 30s at night... freezing by my standards. How do you people do it in places that are actually cold?? At least layers are fun. So are cloud mugs, fur hats, yellow long sleeves, tights, and soup.

Paper Moth Installation

How's this for inspiration? Artist Carlos Amorales cut over 30,000 moths from black paper that were then hand-glued into this museum space in an installation called Black Cloud. (More photos here.) A lot of something can have such an impact. I love the swarming effect. So pretty!

A flu-induced blog slump

It's only the ninth day of the year and I have already had the flu twice. What does that mean besides a mountain of kleenex and a toast-based diet? It means I haven't blogged in days and while I have been napping the internet has been continuing on without me. I'm feeling left behind and the worst of it all is that I think too much daytime tv has put my creativity to sleep. I'm prescribing myself lots of craft time and pinterest browsing in the next few days to wake it up. Wish me luck!

Some color theory to get me started?

Reason #5,347 to love carrots

I saw this story this morning on one of my favorite blogs, and it's too sweet not to share. This woman in Sweden lost her wedding ring 16 years ago (!) and found it recently wrapped around a carrot that sprouted in her garden. How's that for a reason to grow your own veggies?!
I'll be paying homage to the lovely carrot and her fellow tubers and roots at the Encinitas Farmers Market tonight. It's quickly become my favorite local market for its small town appeal and convenience, as well as its commitment to things like not using plastic bags anymore and letting me taste a million yummy things while I shop. It's the highlight of my Wednesday from 5-7 and you shouldn't miss out!

Happy New Year!

It's only day two and I'm already loving this year. The sun is out and friends are in town and yesterday Joey and I got to spend an entire day together! Days off together are hard to come by these days and we couldn't love them more. We had breakfast, ran around town, napped, had dinner with my family, had a second dinner-snack (oops) at Maggie's, and went to sleep so happy.

Happy 2013 to you all and a giant thank you for your kind attention to this little blog of mine! It means so much, and even though I'm not in it for the numbers (as in views or readers), it sure is fun to see them tick by higher and higher! I'm so grateful. May your year be full of adventures (big or small) and happiness beyond measure!
